Matt Owens’ ‘The Aviators’ Ball’ on the radar

The next release on All Made Up Records is Matt Owens’ debut album ‘The Aviators’ Ball’. The album is being released on 18th May and Matt will be launching it a concert that Aviators Ball front cover HI RESevening as part of the Chorlton Arts Festival. It’s just been featured on the new band radar on the Marlbank blog:

“Matt Owens is to debut with The Aviators’ Ball in May, much of the beautifully arranged material on the All Made Up Records folk and jazz-inspired release taken from the Manchester scene bassist-composer’s suite ‘Ten’, commissioned by the Manchester Jazz Festival and written for jazz quartet combined with wind quintet and percussion.

Aviators also includes a spine-tingling version, sung by Ríoghnach Connolly, of the Appalachian folk song ‘Black is the Colour (of My True Love’s Hair)’ covered famously by Nina Simone and Joan Baez in the 1960s, Cara Dillon and Christy Moore more recently. In the setting of the song backing the singer Owens is joined by Neil Yates on trumpet (who added tin whistle on tantalising opener ‘Raindrops On Our Rooftop’), pianist/organist John Ellis and drummer Rick Weedon plus woodwinds and French horn.”
